Arantix Mountain Bike Test Ride - Canyons Resort

August 15th, 2009 admin No comments

I took the Delta 7 Arantix mountian bike out for a spin at The Canyons Resort for a pre-ride of the Intermountain Cup 1st Annual ROCK THE CANYONS XC Race and that was it - I was sold!

This bike climbs like you have legs of steel and bombs the downhill like you are floating in in the clouds. At one point I turned to my buddy but he wasn’t there - I was flying up a very steep angle and didn’t even know it.

Then after miles of uphill it was time for Holly’s Downhill - this is where I was really sold. My buddy just shook his head at the bottom because I couldn’t stop laughing the whole way down - the bike was an easy ride for a hardtail - bouncing off rocks instead of tossing you.

One suggestion for the ladies - it seemed to ride a bit big - be sure if you buy this bike, that you purchase the correct size and have it fitted to you - I could have used a shorter stem on the medium frame (I’m 5′6″).

Regardless, Saturday during the uphill on the race course in blazing sunlight - I definately remember wishing my fairly lightweight Cannondale was built like a Delta 7! Sell the farm, re-mortgage the house - get one of these bikes if uphill is your thing!

Incredibly lightweight mountain bike!

* Is This Bike Made From Spiderwebs? - CNET.com

“Some people weave baskets by hand. But Delta 7 Sports is weaving bikes that way.

The Payson, Utah-based company on Monday unveiled the Arantix, a mountain bike made out of hollow tubes spun from carbon fibers. The unusual design of the so-called IsoTruss tubes, based on technology from Brigham Young University, allows Delta 7 to cut down weight. A standard hard-tail mountain bike frame (without shock absorbers) made from the stuff weighs about 2.7 pounds, but it’s as strong or stronger as a conventional carbon or aluminum frame, according to the company.” Keep Reading…

Bike Like an Egyptian - PopSci.com

“If a simple polygon can hold up a pharaoh’s tomb for 4,500 years, it should survive some off-road riding. That’s the thinking behind the 2.75-pound Arantix mountain-bike frame from Delta 7 Sports. It’s 10 times as strong as a steel frame of the same weight would be—enough to survive the company’s informal “run- over” test with a Ford F350 pickup.” Keep Reading…

* The Incredibly Strong See-Through Bicycle - Discover Magazine

“On the Arantix Mountain Bike from newbie Delta 7 Sports, the typical solid-cylinder tubing has been replaced by an airy, see-through lattice woven from a carbon-fiber composite and bundled in Kevlar string. The resulting gossamer web may look delicate, but pound for pound this quirky construction—called IsoTruss—is stronger than steel, aluminum, and titanium. It’s even stronger than solid carbon composites, the current front-runners among ultralight bike frames.” Keep Reading…

* Are You Bad Enough to Ride This Bike? - TheStreet.com

“The Arantix by Delta 7 Sports might be pretty - but it’s not for the faint of heart.” See the Video

* Startup Stories: Disruptive Technologies Yield New Businesses - New York Times

“It’s stiffer and up to two pounds lighter than any other frame. And through tuning, it’s more impact resistant. The design can be used for everything from utility poles to aircraft and auto parts, says Marketing Director LesterMuranaka.” Keep Reading…
